السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Dear Sheikh/Brothers/Sisters,

Our Prophet s.a.w. taught us to include this supplication in our Solat (prayers):

Allahumma innee aAAoodzu bika min AAadzabil-qabr,

wa-aAAoodzu bika min fitnatil-maseehid-dajjal,

wa-aAAoodzu bika min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat.

Allahumma innee aAAoodzu bika minal-ma/thami walmaghram.

MEANING:

'O Allah, I take refuge in You from the punishment of the grave,

and I take refuge in You from the temptation and trial of Al-Maseeh Ad-Dajjal,

and I take refuge in You from the trials and tribulations of life and death.
O Allah, I take refuge in You from sin and debt.'

Allahumma innee aAAoodzu bika min AAadzabil-qabr,

wamin AAadzabi jahannam,

wamin fitnatil-mahya walmamat,

wamin shari fitnatil-maseehid-dajjal.

MEANING:

'O Allah, I take refuge in You from the punishment of the grave,

from the torment of the Fire,

from the trials and tribulations of life and death

and from the evil affliction of Al-Maseeh Ad-Dajjal.'

Al-Maseeh Ad-Dajjal: among the great signs of the last hour and the greatest trials to befall mankind, which every Prophet has warned about. Most of mankind will follow him. He will appear from Asbahan, Iran at the time when the Muslims will conquer Constantinople. He will be given special powers and will make the truth seem false and vice versa. He will claim to be righteous and then he will claim prophethood and finally, divinity. From his features is that he will be blind in his right eye which is a definite proof that contradicts his claim to be Allah as it is a sign of imperfection. The word Kafir will be written between his eyes which every believer, literate or illiterate will recognise.

Do note that amongst the things this Du'a is teaching to us,
nay to warn us about so that we seek Allah's protection from
them is: "fitnatil-MaseeHid-Dajjal."

Who or what is this Fitnah?
Has the fitnah of Dajjal begun?

One Sheikh/brother (Jumabhoy) ask me about some free
booklets given out on the internet - as to what I think.
My reply is:

"Instead of relying on Christian-Neocon propaganda
which they are trying to give out free as literatures or DVD's e.g.:
"The Middle East in Bible Prophecy" - FREE booklet!
(where glaring distortions and misinformation are blatantly spread),
we should seek our own perspectives. Be forwarned that their materials
are unreliable and their so-called 'experts' cannot be regarded as honest."

Alternatively, we need to educate ourselves with the right knowledge from
dependable sources and form our own reponses.
One such Muslim's response available is:

May Allaah increase us in knowledge ('ilm)
and Wisdom (hukmah), and strengthens our
Faith (iiman) and piety (Taqwa)!

O Allah! Let us see the truth as True, and make us able to follow it.
Let us see falsehood as False, and make us able to reject it.

O Allah, send peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad,

his family and his loyal companions, and all those who follow them in

righteousness till the Day of Reckoning.

Ameen.

from the book "When You Hear the Hoofbeats Think of a Zebra" by Shems Friedlander.

"Allah is most Generous and most Forgiving.  He is most Generous because He loves His creation, and He is most Forgiving because He knows that we need a Lord with forgiveness. Don't just take it for granted and say, "I've done something wrong. Now I don't ever have to do anything right again" or "Well, I haven't done my prayer for two weeks, so now I dont have to do them anymore. I haven't done my tesbih, so why should I continue?" CONTINUE! If you have forgotten Allah, remember Him.  We remember Him because we have forgotten Him.

Somehow.....somewhow we have to get throught this fog.  We have to help each other do that.  We have to keep remembering and reminding each other.

"Make them remember." This was told to the Prophet Muhammad.  But it is also told to everyone.  Farid-ud-din Attar, the Sufi master who wrote The Conference of the Birds, said: "Be in the company of those who remind you of Allah." We see what happens when we are not in that company.  We have had enough experiences, and we are not strong enough to be alone in this world." - Shems Friedlander

Every little sentence that was put together in this book just hit me hard in the head! May Allah be pleased with this author works and am grateful to my dear friend who recommends it.

1) The bounty that comes from Allah to a believer due to his trial is greater than the bounty that comes from Allah during his times of ease. [Ibn Rajab]

2) GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.  Find a way to be thankful for your troubles and they can become your blessings.

3) You never know what you can say or do that can change a person's whole day--whole life, that is why it is so important to say nothing but good. The power of a kind word or deed is indescribable.

4) Everyone who is taken by death asks for more time, while everyone who still has time makes excuses for procrastination. [Ali radi Allah anhu]

5) People believe the radiation from mobile phones, blue tooth headsets and phone masts can cause cancer, know that the radiation of wealth can kill off the spirituality of the heart! [Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq]

6) If what you desire from this world is what should suffice you, a little should suffice you; but if you desire more than your sufficiency, the entire world will not suffice you. Control your egos by abandoning what the world contains, for you have entered it naked and naked you will leave it. [Imam Ghazali]

7) You can't always have everything, but you can make the best of what you have. Discontentment makes rich people poor, while contentment makes poor people rich.

8) “If six mannerisms are gathered in a woman, her goodness is perfected: Guarding the five prayers, yielding to her husband, pleasing her Lord, guarding her tongue from backbiting and gossip, forsaking worldly possessions, and being patient following a tragedy.” [Ahmad ibn Harb]

9) If someone gave you a beautiful, expensive new hat, wouldn't you be grateful for the generous gift? But shouldn't you be even more grateful for the One Who gave you the head to put that hat on. [Shaykh Muzaffer Ozak]

10) "If you are looking for a friend who is faultless, you will be friendless." [ Jalaluddin Rumi]

11) Ash-Shâfi‘î (rahimahullâh) said, “Whoever spread gossip for you spreads gossip against you. Whoever relates tales to you will tell tales about you. Whoever when you please him says about you what is not in you, when you anger him will say about you what is not in you.”

12) You should imagine everyone whom you see as better than yourself, even though someone may be obedient and someone else disobedient, since it might be that the obedience of the former is the last of his acts of obedience while the sinfulness of the latter is the last of his sinful acts. [Shaykh Nizamuddin al-Awliya]

13) Watch your eye, should it ever reveal to you the faults of others, say to it: "O my eye, other people have eyes too." [Ahmad al Zarruq]

1. Modernity is the teaching of perfect misunderstanding.

2. Wrath is finite; mercy knows no end

3. Blessing’ is a large word, but do not be slow to use it.

4. Truth is too big to fit into our minds, but our minds are small enough to fit into Truth.

5. Pride is the denial of the Truth’. (Hadith.)

6. For which is He more to be praised: for His blessings, or for His forbearance in the face of our refusal to give thanks for them?

7. To blame others for our misfortunes is always a victory for the nafs .

8. Modernity deprives us of the most basic right of all: the right to be traditional

9. Be a good Muslim and you won't want to lie. Be a very good Muslim and you won't need to lie.

10. 'Never despise any Muslim, for the least of the Muslims is great in the eyes of God.' (Abu Bakr al-Siddiq r.a.).

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for Allah to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements and to store his few possessions.

But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger.

“Allah, how could you do this to me!” he cried.

Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him.

“How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of his rescuers.
“We saw your smoke signal,” they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged when things are going badly. But we shouldn’t lose heart, because Allah is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering.

Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground–it just may be a smoke signal that summons The Grace of Allah.

A beautiful reminder of Allah’s Greatness and our weakness and need of Him,may we always turn to our Lord for help and no one else, Ameen.

A woman one day said something that hurt her best friend. She regretted it immediately, and would have done anything to have taken the words back. But they were said, impulsively, in a moment of thoughtlessness, and as close as she and her friend were, she didn’t consider the effects of her words before hand.

In her effort to undo what she had done, she went to an older, wiser woman in the village. Explaining her situation, and asked for advice. The older woman listened patiently in an effort to determine just how sincere the younger woman was, how far she was willing to go to correct the situation.

The wise women said, “There are two things needed to do to make amends. The first of the two is extremely difficult. Tonight, take your best feather pillows, and open a small hole in each one. Then, before the sun rises, you must put a single feather on the doorstep of each house in town. When you are through, come back to me. If you’ve done the first thing completely, I’ll tell you the second.”

The young woman hurried home to prepare for her chore. All night long she laboured alone in the cold. She went from doorstep to doorstep, taking care not to overlook a single house. Her fingers were frozen, the wind was so sharp it caused her eyes to water, but she ran on, through the darkened streets, thankful there was something she could do to put things back the way they once were.

Just as the sun rose, she returned to the older woman. She was exhausted, but relieved that her efforts would be rewarded. “My pillows are empty. I placed a feather on the doorstep of each home.”

Now, said the wise woman, “Go back and refill your pillows. Then everything will be as it was before.”

The young woman was stunned. “You know that’s impossible! The wind blew away each feather as fast as I placed them on the doorsteps! You didn’t say I had to get them back! If this is the second requirement, then things will never be the same.”

“That’s true”, said the older woman.

“Never forget. Each of your words is like a feather in the wind. Once spoken, no amount of effort, regardless how heartfelt or sincere, can ever return them to your mouth. Choose your words well, and guard them most of all in the presence of those you love.”
